There is history to this record!
At the time in 1992 that the A-side track (as a CD single) was rocketing up the Australian charts, I approached EMI Australia and requested that they press (it was either) 500 or 1000 copies on 7 inch vinyl. At that time, the record companies were much more interested in promoting and pushing CD sales, and it took quite some time and effort (and a couple of trips to Sydney) before I finally got the green light from EMI to press the record in my name by Festival Records in Sydney.
Because of the time which the licensing and approval process had already taken, I didn’t have time to get proper labels printed up for the record, and it was therefore born with plain white completely un-printed labels, and instead I had a local printer make up a swag of the rectangular stick-on labels which you see on the A-side. We also didn’t get allocated a catalogue number for the release, although the matrix etching indicates DTMX-79911 on the A-side and DTMX-79912 on the B-side.
None of these records were sold at retail level through any record stores anywhere in Australia; we were then also the major supplier to the juke box market in Australia and having arranged the licensing and production, we distributed the whole lot throughout Australia and New Zealand.
“Way out west” was originally released in 1973 by the Australian (then later American-based) group, The Dingoes. “She won’t let you down” is a James Blundell composition.
